Jaquet-Droz, A Story of Genius and Innovation
In 1738, Pierre Jaquet-Droz founded his first watchmaking company in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. A true pioneer of Haute Horlogerie, he distinguished himself with his mechanical genius and innovative spirit. His avant-garde watches, equipped with sophisticated movements, music, and automata, captivated monarchs of the time, such as King Ferdinand VI of Spain and Emperor Qianlong of China.
The exceptional realism of his creations fascinated the greatest figures of the era. In 2000, after a post-revolutionary decline and the Napoleonic Wars, the Jaquet-Droz house was acquired by the Swatch Group, marking the beginning of a new momentum for this iconic brand.
Artisanal Craftsmanship and Unique Spirit for Luxury Watches
Since its inception, Jaquet-Droz has excelled in creating unique luxury watches. An iconic example is the Grande Seconde, launched in 2002. This model, inspired by an 18th-century pocket watch, is adorned with sapphire and Grand Feu enamel, embodying the refinement and innovation characteristic of the house.
The brand is known for its bespoke watches, set with precious and semi-precious stones, and for its dials embellished with rare materials, such as dried seaweed. These exceptional creations have earned Jaquet-Droz prestigious awards, including the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, attesting to its status in the world of high watchmaking.
