Article: Chopard jewels, heroes of the latest James Bond

Les bijoux Chopard, héros du dernier James Bond

Chopard jewels, heroes of the latest James Bond

The latest James Bond film, "No Time to Die", was released in cinemas on October 6th in France. The latest installment in the 007 saga is enchanting fans of the series. And for those who love luxury jewelry, they are doubly spoiled: Chopard, in addition to supplying pieces from its Green Carpet collection for the filming, has released a special Happy Diamonds collection inspired by Her Majesty's most famous secret agent.

In the latest James Bond, the most acclaimed character is Paloma, played by actress Ana de Armas. She jokes, fights, and flirts while being spectacularly covered in Chopard diamond jewelry.

De Armas, who plays a CIA agent working with Bond on his mission, wears 3 high jewelry models from Chopard's Green Carpet collection. What most excited Chopard co-president and artistic director, Caroline Scheufele, beyond working on a highly anticipated Bond film, is the fact that the actress wears these Chopard high jewelry pieces in the film's most difficult action scenes, "and all without losing an earring," she said.

Ana actually played a role in selecting the Chopard jewelry she would wear and that would best suit the scenes,” Scheufele said. “They are glamorous, but no-fuss, they perfectly complement an action scene.

The carat weight alone of these luxury jewels is worth noting. De Armas's necklace is set with pear-shaped diamonds for a total weight of 43 carats. A bracelet composed of 82 carats of pear and brilliant-cut diamonds also adorns her wrist. Finally, Chopard earrings set with 14 carats of diamonds complete her look.

All these creations are part of the Chopard Green Carpet collection. This is the house's first collection entirely made from sustainably sourced materials in the form of ethical Fairmined certified gold and diamonds. They come from suppliers approved by the Responsible Jewellery Council. As the house has been committed to its Journey to Sustainable Luxury project since 2013, Scheufele says she is happy to showcase these creations, which are as ethical as they are aesthetic.

As a family business, Chopard considers ethics an important value,” Scheufele said. “Indeed, as early as 2018, the house committed to using only 100% ethical gold.

Chopard Jewelry, Official Partner of No Time to Die

Chopard is an official partner of No Time to Die, the 25th James Bond film. De Armas has stated in interviews that she hopes her character in this film will be considered a “Bond woman”. This is a counterpoint to what has historically been called "Bond girls". Scheufele agrees with her on this point. According to her, Paloma was the ideal muse to embody a strong female character in this Bond film.

We are inspired by contemporary times. Many of our clients are themselves courageous and independent women,” says Scheufele. “I must say that I have never seen our jewelry worn in an action film like this. So to have our creations featured on such a strong female action character is exciting for me.

The premiere of No Time to Die was originally scheduled for April 2020. But the film's release was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. On its opening weekend in North American cinemas (4,407 screens), the latest James Bond reportedly generated revenues of $56 million, according to the media. The film received reasonable reviews, including an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Cinema is a great source of inspiration for Chopard

Films are a great source of inspiration for Chopard, according to Scheufele. “Ever since I was young, I have always been in love with cinema. Chopard is a fervent supporter of the world of cinema. Every year, we are committed through our partnership with the Cannes Film Festival. We sponsor the Chopard Trophy to encourage and support young talents,” says Scheufele. “A partnership like this brings a lot of visibility to the house, because it places Chopard at the heart of the action. It is particularly moving for me to see our high jewelry on the big screen, it is an exceptional showcase!

With its long history and impressive name, Chopard wants to be at the heart of the action. There's nothing like a James Bond film to achieve that, according to Scheufele.

As an independent family business, we have the freedom to be innovative, to think and act outside the box,” said Scheufele. “We are constantly moving forward, trying to imagine the next step. In the case of No Time to Die, being able to present sustainable Chopard jewelry from the Green Carpet collection gives us the opportunity to showcase pieces that represent our vision and our commitment to responsible luxury. And in an exciting way.

Chopard "James Bond" jewelry derived from the Happy Hearts collection

Scheufele also shares her vision of the Bond woman, a determined and courageous woman, through a reinterpretation of Chopard's iconic Happy Hearts. This revisited collection is unique in that Chopard has crafted the rose gold hearts with ethical materials, which is a leitmotif embedded in James Bond's DNA. Chopard has described the Happy Hearts – Golden Hearts collection as "ethical, light, flexible and easy to wear".
