Bulgari, A Legacy of Luxury and Innovation

Sotirio Bulgari, coming from a family of goldsmiths and jewelers in Greece, founded the Bulgari house in 1879 in Rome. Since its inception, Bulgari has distinguished itself with an unmistakable style, combining ancient classical art, Italian Renaissance, and 19th-century Roman jewelry. This perfect fusion of tradition and modernity allows the House to preserve the heritage of the past while making it contemporary, giving its jewelry timeless beauty.

Bulgari Collections

Bulgari collections are famous for their innovative use of materials and gemstones. Roman coins are highlighted in contrasting gold and silver necklaces, as seen in the Monete collection. Cameos and intaglios are mounted in sautoir, interspersed with diamonds to create pieces of rare elegance.

Materials are carefully selected: diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, as well as turquoise, citrine, and amethyst are assembled into a harmony of vibrant colors. The Astrale necklace, for example, in yellow gold punctuated with gold discs set with diamonds and multicolored stones, embodies this aesthetic. The Spiga necklace, adorned with tourmalines and made of yellow gold, offers a seductive simplicity. The Tubogas watches feature a seamless tubular mesh, a trademark of Bulgari, while the modern lines of Parentesi and BZero rings reflect the brand’s ongoing creativity.

The Origins of Bulgari

Bulgari, an internationally renowned institution, has been part of the French LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy) group since 2011. Founded in Rome in 1884 by Greek silversmith Sotirios Bulgari, the house began by selling antiques and silverware. In 1905, it opened its iconic boutique on Via Condotti, before specializing in jewelry in 1910.

Upon Sotirios Bulgari's death in 1932, his sons took over the company, which was then passed to the next generation in 1984. This new generation diversified the house into watchmaking, perfumes, and accessories, transforming Bulgari into a major luxury group.

The brand's rise intensified in the 1950s, with celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn becoming loyal clients. The 1970s marked Bulgari’s international expansion, with boutiques opening in New York, Monte-Carlo, and Geneva.

Bulgari Jewelry Over Time

Bulgari creations have evolved over the decades. In the 1950s, Bulgari watches and rings were often adorned with platinum and diamonds. The 1970s showcased yellow gold, while today, the house favors platinum, white gold, and gemstones. These changes reflect the brand's adaptability and continuous innovation while remaining true to its heritage.
