The history of this splendid watch brand can be traced back to 1860 when Giovanni Panerai established his first boutique in Florence; later transforming into the legendary Officine Panerai company, its current name. This was a time when the Italian Royal Navy (X e Flottiglia MAS) required its divers to possess advanced accessories for the successful completion of their missions. For this purpose, in 1938, Officine Panerai developed the Radiomir, a watch featuring high water resistance as well as optimal legibility. This first watch proved to be a turning point in the history of the house. Later on, a second version of the Radiomir was created, by Panerai, for the Egyptian Navy.
In 1997, the Richemont group purchased Panerai resulting in the creation of two innovative models: Luminor and Luminor Marina. The brand went on to acquire international recognition within a year. In 2002, a new watch manufacturing unit was established in Neuchȃtel, in Switzerland. It’s no wonder that Panerai came up with a remarkable innovation, after all, it was established in the country of luxury watchmaking. In fact, this marked the beginning of the manufacturing of latest watch mechanisms and calibers as well as the emergence of other watch collections; all of which were the well-deserved results of the Panerai brand’s meticulous planning and research.
Gorgeous creations that thrill watch fanatics
It’s quite clear that Panerai watches are a lot more than just military legacies as the brand creates truly exclusive models that have succeeded in alluring renowned celebrities like Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sylvester Stallone helped the company to acquire worldwide popularity by wearing a Panerai Luminor in the 1996 movie “Daylight”. This prompted Panerai to decorate a few of their watches with the logo “Daylight” or “Slytech”; Sly being Stallone’s nickname. The Panerai Luminor Regatta was worn again by Stallone in the film “The Expendables” while acting as Barney Ross.
In addition, a Panerai Luminor Marina was worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the film “Eraser”. There are numerous other movies in which Panerai timepieces have made an appearance; enhancing the brand’s global reputation. Panerai keeps on advancing with pride; creating models with diverse dials, cases and bracelets. Each of the brand’s creations is exclusive and timeless.
